We kicked off August with National Night Out, held at Kinder Farm Park on August 5. National Night Out is a vibrant celebration of community spirit and public safety, bringing neighbors together for an evening of connection, fun and shared purpose. Over 70 exhibitors provided demos, games, giveaways and more! The chamber was a proud chief-level sponsor of this wonderful event.
We held five ribbon cuttings in August, a testament to the vibrancy of our business community. The first was for The LoveJoy Project, a business selling home decor, candles, diffusers, pillows and more. Proceeds from sales are donated to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in memory of the business owner’s mother, Judith Lovejoy Stewart.
Next, we celebrated the 15-year anniversary of KMA Law Office and the three-year anniversary of Park Modern Realty. Karen Authement is the founder of KMA and recently purchased a building on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park that houses her offices, along with Park Modern Realty and her son’s company, Bayrise Builders. We enjoyed food, music, giveaways and more.
We were honored to perform the ribbon cutting for the grand opening of iCode Severna Park. iCode makes STEM education fun with instructor-led, hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) classes and camps utilizing gamified learning techniques to keep students engaged and excited to learn.
Another new business celebrated its official grand opening – Gotta Have HeART Studio. The space is a haven for artists of all levels and ages who want to participate in workshops, classes and studio sessions, igniting their passion for art!
Cottonwood in the Park was the host of our Successful Women in Business Group’s “First Cup Club.” And what an amazing place it is, filled with sewing and crafting essentials, antiques, jewelry, clothing and much, much more.
We kicked off a new event called Monthly Mingle where chamber members and guests enjoyed a no-pressure, relaxed opportunity to network and get to know one another. The August event was held at Park Tavern. We enjoyed delicious appetizers, libations, a beautiful bundt cake courtesy of Nothing Bundt Cakes, and great conversation. We will visit a different place each month.
There are six chambers in Anne Arundel County, and we often partner with them to host events. We recently held a multi-chamber Power Connections breakfast at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies in Linthicum. Participants enjoyed meeting more than 100 attendees in a fast-paced, speed networking format.
