Savvy Consignment Expands To Better Serve Severna Park

Coach, Michael Kors, Lilly Pulitzer, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade, Uggs – all these designer fashion brands typically carry a hefty price tag that, in this economy, can be difficult to rationalize. However, with the recent expansion of Savvy Consignment in the Severna Park Village Shopping Center, there doesn’t need to be any rationalizing, as the store is stocked full of gently used name brands at a fraction of the original price tags.

This past September, in order for Savvy Clothing & Accessories and Savvy Home to merge so that all items could be found in one place, the Clothing & Accessories store traded locations with Family Floors. Savvy owner Stacey Cassidy has thus far been thrilled with the expansion. “It’s a great milestone for a small business and very gratifying. I’m really happy,” she said.

Before Cassidy made the decision to open Savvy Consignment five years ago, she was working as a corporate marketing manager in Annapolis. “I was tired of the corporate world, and one day, I was flipping through a Fortune 500 magazine that had consignment shops listed as one of the top-growing industries. I just had it in my head to do it,” she said.

When the store location became available in the Severna Park Village Shopping Center, Cassidy took it as a sign. “Location is key, and this was a great spot. So I took a total leap of faith and on a whim opened Savvy Consignment,” she revealed.

Today, the shop has grown to include 18 employees and more than 6,000 consignors. Cassidy credits the tight-knit Severna Park community for her business’s success over the years. “It’s a tight-knit community, and I think a lot of people are small-business supporters in Severna Park,” she explained. “And they’re all recycling their clothing, accessories, shoes and furniture!” Cassidy added that in the first six weeks of their expansion, Savvy has brought in 35 new consignors.

Not only does the store offer a range of women’s and children’s apparel, shoes and accessories, but the selection of home furnishings and “cool clutter” (as Cassidy calls it) is top-notch, as it offers an array of home decor styles, from shabby chic to nautical to vintage.

“I feel that we give great service. It’s one of my big priorities that we provide quality, gently used clothes and furniture,” Cassidy added.

Giving back to the community has also been another priority for Cassidy and the Savvy team. “I have three kids in Severna Park schools, so I do as much for the schools as I can. I’ve provided clothes for a few fashion shows for local Girl Scout troops. I donated the outfits, and then the girls auctioned off the clothes. Two of the fashion shows have been really successful. The kids are really good at coming up with creative fundraisers,” she said.

Cassidy is also a founding member of the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce’s Shop Local program. “People need to support small businesses because of the monetary value that stays in the community. You might spend $5 more shopping at a local business than you would at a chain store, but those few extra dollars make a whole lot of difference in this community,” she emphasized.

Savvy Consignment is located in the Severna Park Village Shopping Center and is open on Mondays from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00am to 6:30pm, Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sundays from 10:00am to 3:00pm. They accept consignments Mondays through Fridays. For more information, give them a call at 410-647-1636 or visit www.savvyconsignment.com.
