Real Estate Agent Melissa Blohm Represents The Area She Calls Home

On any given day, Melissa Blohm might be a creative marketer, a consultant or teacher, and even an adviser — these are all roles that the Severna Park resident fills in her job as a real estate agent with Century 21. Rising to the multidimensional demands of her exciting career, Blohm works with buyers and sellers alike to market their homes in Anne Arundel County and even parts of Howard County and Charles County.

“I know the area so well,” Blohm said. “I’ve lived here for 20 years. I have a good grasp of the general community in Anne Arundel County. The passion is there, too. This is where I call home.”

Prior to entering the real estate industry, Blohm had worked in sales and marketing. But when she became a parent, she wanted a job that would allow her flexibility in her schedule. “What inspired me the most was that I wanted a work-life balance,” she said. “With a family with three active boys, I wanted to choose my hours and have the flexibility to keep that balance.”

Now with five years behind her, Blohm enjoys being her own CEO and having the ability to manage her appointments and still be accessible to clients at any point. Although entering real estate was “a learning process,” her experience with contracts and negotiating from her sales background proved to be an asset, and she has enjoyed following trends in the market. “I’m constantly educating myself because I have to keep up with — if not stay ahead of — the trends,” she said. “It never gets boring.”

Clients find in Blohm somebody who is committed, responsive and relatable, three attributes that make them feel comfortable being represented by her. “They feel as if they’re my only client because they have my undivided attention,” Blohm said. “They feel well taken care of.”

And though she started out working mostly with buyers, then shifted to working with sellers, she enjoys both sides equally. “It’s important to work with both so you have a sense of what’s on the market,” she explained.

Blohm also maintains a good sense of the quality of life in the area by staying active in the community. Her three sons participate in Green Hornets, and she is very involved with the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she is a member and former president of the Greater Severna Park Moms Club, which “helped tremendously” when she was new to the area, and she hopes to join the board of the Brittingham Homeowners Association in the coming year. Professionally, she has participated in fundraisers for such organizations as Kyle’s Kamp with her son’s baseball team to raise funds for pediatric cancer research and participates in the annual Walk To End Alzheimer’s in support of her mom. “The more relationships I can build, the more trusting I can become, and people relate to you a little more,” she said of her involvement.

As the real estate market continues to improve, Blohm anticipates being in the industry for years to come, and she hopes that the future will allow her to continue achieving her balance with family, staying involved with the community and giving to charity. “I’d like to spend more time doing that,” she emphasized of the charity work.
