Chamber Update

Posted

Autumn is the time for falling leaves, cider, crackling fires, cozy sweaters, and did I mention leaves? Don’t forget that there are businesses in the chamber that can help you deal with raking those leaves while also providing firewood for the upcoming winter. For a referral, call us at 410-647-3900 and we’ll try to help. Remember to shop local and dine small – supporting our local businesses. A good rule is ABC – Always Buy Chamber!

The Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber’s Successful Women in Business group has planned a professional women’s luncheon (buffet format) at Walden Country Club on Wednesday, October 11. We’ve invited business women from the Greater Crofton Chamber, Greater Bowie Chamber and the Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce. It should be a great opportunity to build new relationships and renew old ones. The event is from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Register online at www.greatersevernaparkchamber.com.

Our Business Development initiative is on October 18 at Ledo Pizza and Pasta in Park Plaza. The topic is “Avoiding Pitfalls in Real Estate Closings,” and the speaker is Andy Cooch with Progressive Title and the Law Office of Cooch, Bowers and Schuller. This program is free, and coffee will be served for this 8:00am-9:30am presentation.

The Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning will work with our citizens and stakeholders to update the General Development Plan in the next two years. A series of listening sessions will be held so officials can hear the issues and vision people have for the county. Two of these sessions are coming up in our area: October 17 at Broadneck High School and November 30 at Old Mill High School, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm both dates.

When it comes to networking potential, it’s hard to beat our joint business exchange breakfasts. Thursday, October 26, is the date for the next one and it will be held at Crofton Country Club. Seven business organizations will participate. The event begins at 7:30am and concludes at 9:30am. The format is dynamic and a sure way to meet people and present your business.

Also, on October 26, the chamber will hold a “signature” mixer at Severn Bank on Benfield Road. Our three special guests include William C. Baker, president of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation; Senator Ed Reilly; and Dr. George Arlotto, superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The fee is $20 and a donation will be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. For more information on this after-hours business mixer, contact the chamber at 410-647-3900 or email us at info@severnaparkchamber.com.

We have some other exciting annual events coming up. Our Holiday Trade Fair at Earleigh Heights Fire Hall is going to be held on November 2. A bevy of exhibitors and vendors will showcase their businesses and products.

Our famous Taste & Sip of Greater Severna Park will be held on November 15 at Homestead Gardens in Severna Park. In addition to incredible food and drink, there will be holiday entertainment, a jewelry raffle and a silent auction. Watch for details on our website and Facebook page. This is our eighth year for Taste & Sip, and we expect it to be a fabulous event. Tickets will be available for sale shortly.

For more information on these or other events, contact Linda Zahn at 410-647-3900, or email info@severnaparkchamber.com. We’d love to hear from you!
