Severna Park Health Association Supports Local Groups

Posted

With a mission to support health-related nonprofits and charities , the Severna Park Health Association (SPHA) made a handful of donations this spring. SPHA gave $5,000 to each of these three beneficiaries: HeartSmart, Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN) and the nursing program at Anne Arundel Community College.

HeartSmart was founded in honor of former Anne Arundel County Councilman Cliff Roop, a Severna Park resident who died of a heart attack in 2000. The foundation donates automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, to public and nonprofit buildings so people with minimal training can treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

SPAN is a food pantry and financial assistance network that helps individuals and families get through critical or emergency situations.

At Anne Arundel Community College, the nursing department’s vision is to enhance the health and well-being of the community by advancing the profession of nursing through education, scholarships and service.
