Dear Severna Park Voice,
I’m reaching out as a concerned resident of The Village of Severna Park (Olde Severna Park). Back in July of 2023, I first contacted the county about installing a flashing crosswalk sign at a dangerous crossing near our local bike trail right off Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard. After some delay, the county confirmed this is a state highway and that I should contact them. That said, I escalated the request to the Maryland State Highway Administration. I was also told other residents had made similar requests with the county.
In July 2023 — now 31 months ago — I submitted my official ticket (SR- 0489833). Since then, despite follow-ups, nothing has been done. When I called today, I was told they still don’t know who to route the ticket to.
This crossing is vital for children walking to school and for community access to the trail. The lack of action is not just frustrating; it’s putting lives at risk every day this is delayed.
I believe the public deserves to know how critical safety requests are being lost in bureaucracy. I would appreciate your help in amplifying this issue so action can finally be taken before a preventable tragedy occurs.
Sincerely,
Shaina Wedington
