Student-Athlete Of The Month: Carson Pierce

Broadneck Lacrosse, Football

When Carson Pierce was asked to play a more forward role on the Broadneck boys lacrosse team, he didn’t hesitate. Likewise, when approached to yield his offensive output to become an important linebacker on the football team, he didn’t blink.

“I kind of think of myself as an AC unit on the field: nobody notices unless it stops working,” Pierce said. “I’m happy to be a part of other guys’ successes.”

Though he didn’t show up in headlines or in many box scores, he earned the respect of his teammates and coaches for unselfish play and doing what the team needed of him.

His play also helped land him an offer to continue his lacrosse career at Division I Mercer University in Georgia. There, he’ll move further back to his more accustomed short-stick defensive midfield position.

During his time at Broadneck, Pierce completed seven AP classes, participated on the school’s athletic leadership council, and discovered his chosen career path.

“The AP calculus class was probably my favorite, even though it was hard. It helped me learn more about the basics of what I’m interested in, which is civil engineering,” said Pierce, who hopes to parlay the engineering degree into a career in construction management. “I love going into a city and going past all the buildings, just to look at them and think about how interesting they are.”

Pierce owes that interest, he says, to a lifelong love of LEGO. His favorite build so far is that of one of his favorite superheroes, Spider-Man, with the build set comprised of nearly 1,000 pieces.

When he’s not playing lacrosse, teaching lacrosse, working at The Point Crab House & Grill, or working on a LEGO build, Pierce likes to contemplate the vastness of space.

“It’s just endless and mesmerizing,” Pierce said. “We’ve gone out with a star app on the phone, and we’ve been camping at Yellowstone. There’s just so much to it, and there’s no explanation for where it ends. It’s so interesting.”
