SPHS Drama Club's Tracey Mooney Is A Vital Force Behind The Scenes

By Hayley GableLong before the stage has been set and the curtains are drawn for a production by the Severna Park High School Drama Club, several parent volunteers work diligently to make sure every last detail is set to go. From scheduling Booster meetings to applying every last brush of theater makeup, the volunteers make themselves available for anything and everything so each show can go on as planned.
One of these faceless parent volunteers, Magothy Forest resident Tracey Mooney, has offered her time and services to the Drama Club at Severna Park High School, assisting with everything from casting duties to administrative tasks. Currently, she serves as Secretary of the Falcons Drama Boosters.
Mooney, who has been a resident of Severna Park for the last 22 years, began assisting with the Drama Club when her son Josh joined as a freshman. Now in his junior year, Josh recently won the lead role and starred as the Phantom in Severna Park’s fall production of “Phantom of the Opera.”

“I was never very involved in extracurricular activities while I was a high school student,” admits Mooney. “However, now that my son is involved in his school’s drama program and also actually enjoys me being a part of it with him, I see that as true privilege,” she added.
Mooney provided a tremendous amount of assistance and support this past fall with the Falcons’ memorable production of Phantom of the Opera.
“When the idea was brought up early last summer to feature Phantom as our fall production, some people weren’t sure if we could pull it off,” recalled Mooney. “But our director, Angie Germanos, really wanted to do it, and so I urged her to go with it,” she added.
After the SPHS Drama Boosters decided on Phantom of the Opera, the next three months were spent arranging auditions, casting roles, gathering and creating costumes, making props, rehearsing scenes, gaining sponsorship, organizing ticket concessions, and promoting the production.
“Tracey devotes countless hours of time and helps in so many ways to make SPHS Drama great,” said Drama Boosters Director Angela Germanos. “She fills in any gaps at the productions by volunteering herself, her husband or son to help. She is a positive force at SPHS Drama,” added Germanos.
By day, Tracey works as the Chief Financial Officer for a Chain Dialysis Foundation. In addition, she also serves on the board of the Magothy Forest Community Association.
“My hope for the future is that every parent can somehow find a way to lend a helping hand,” commented Mooney. “It is such a wonderful opportunity to be involved with the kids this way. This is truly time to be cherished,” she concluded.
