After a successful senior season for the Severna Park Falcons that included being named an All-State and All-County kicker/punter, Gavin Fetty received his highest accolade by being selected to the prestigious Kicking World National Showcase in Austin, Texas.

Fetty was one of 105 kickers/punters out of 1,300 high school athletes nationally to be invited and only one of 65 to participate in the two-day event that was attended by numerous college recruiters in December.

“Gavin was one of just over 100 players invited to our national showcase this winter,” said Kicking World owner and coach Brent Grablachoff. “To qualify for this special event, we consider Gavin to be one of the top 10-15% of kickers in the nation. He had a strong showing making six consecutive field goals and averaging 60 yards on his kickoffs.”

On the second day of the event, Fetty ranked eighth in the punting exhibition with a 40.29-yard average and an average hang time of 3.55 seconds. Fetty’s best punt was 43 yards.

Fetty started kicking at 8 years old with his grandfather taking him to Brooklyn’s Farring-Baybrook Recreation Center, where Fetty began by kicking off a tee.

“I was inspired by the Ravens’ Justin Tucker and thought to myself, ‘I wonder if I could learn how to kick and help teams score points and win football games,’” Fetty said.

Fetty’s family eventually moved to Severna Park, and he continued his dream by practicing kicking field goals and kickoffs at Kinder Farm Park and playing for the Green Hornets. He added punting to his skill set in ninth grade.

“I would practice for about two hours every day in addition to practice and my coach in the Green Hornets, Kevin Howell, gave me a lot of confidence with my kicking,” Fetty said. “I was probably kicking 30-yard field goals with the Green Hornets, and we used a lot of onside kicks, and I was pretty good with those.”

Fetty played on Severna Park’s junior varsity football team during his freshman and sophomore years. The varsity squad previously had an excellent kicker, Tucker Smack, who kicked for Salisbury University last fall.

During those freshman and sophomore years, Fetty’s kicking and punting improved.

“I had a big increase in my kickoffs and field goal length due to my strength training ritual,” Fetty said. “I used explosive training like box jumps and weights along with my flexibility workouts.”

Those improvements helped the Falcons the last few years, especially last season as Fetty was an integral part of the Falcons’ offense.

“Gavin was three for three in field-goal attempts including the game-winning score and upset victory against Old Mill,” said Severna Park football head coach Nick Marks. “He was also 21 for 22 in extra-point attempts and had a 34-yard average on punts with eight being strategically placed inside the 20-yard line to put our opponents at a disadvantage in field position. As far as kickoffs, his kicks resulted in touchbacks 75% of the time.”

The Falcons finished with a 7-4 record this year, and for the first time since 2008, they won a playoff game. The Falcons’ season ended the following week against Old Mill, but Fetty had two field goals in that game, from 44 and 31 yards.

Fetty handled high-pressure kicks in big games by relying on his visualization training and endless hours of training and practice. He has also been a stalwart participant in numerous camps including the national Kohl’s kicking camp and the University of Maryland’s punting camp as well as Towson University’s punting camp, where he finished first.

At the 2025 Kohl’s Future Stars Invitational camp in Baltimore, Fetty’s impressive performance included his longest punt of 52 yards and a 3.83 second hang time. His kickoff score was rated 99.97 out of 100 for length and accuracy.

“Gavin works very hard at his craft,” Marks said. “I’m sad to see him graduate as he was such a great weapon for us by kicking long field goals and half his kickoffs reached the end zone. That’s a huge advantage for a high school team.”

Fetty plans to kick and punt in college and is visiting numerous campuses including Salisbury, Morgan State and Howard.
