The Severna Park Green Hornets 2014 boys Lightning won the U10 Elite division of the PSC Classic the weekend of Nov 11-12 in Pasadena. The Lightning opened with a nail-biter, beating a skilled and fast Dallastown FC team from Eastern Pennsylvania 5-4 in the opener. The game featured five lead changes and wasn't settled until Matthew Perry converted a penalty kick in the final minutes of the game.

The Lightning then beat Davidsonville FC 3-0 and took down Montgomery County's MSI 7-1 to qualify for the final. The final featured a rematch with a Davidsonville team looking for revenge. Davidsonville took an early lead with a breakaway goal from their right wing. The Lightning were not deterred and leveled it 40 seconds later when Caden Smith knocked home left wing Xavier LaBarge's cross.

Matthew Perry dribbled through three DFC players and played a cut pass to Smith at the top of the box to add his second score to give his team a 2-1 lead. Continuing his hot streak, Smith took the ball downfield, drawing several defenders before playing a diagonal pass onto the run of left winger River Baker, who hit a one-time laser into the bottom corner to make it 3-1. Baker sealed the victory with his second goal with another finish from Mason Moran's cross into the box.

After the game, head coach Anthony Perry expressed that his team couldn’t ask for a better way to finish the season.

“Every boy on this team was a huge part of our success as we played our best goalkeeping, team defense and team offense of the season,” coach Perry said. “It was like everything coach (Adam) Baker and I worked on all season – one-versus-ones, quick finishing, combination passing, individual and team defense - came to fruition at once. The creativity and intensity these boys bring every week makes them fun to coach and watch.”
