Lady Cobras Strike For Two Basketball Championships

The Green Hornets’ 9U girls select basketball team — the Lady Cobras — had quite a nice start to winter. The girls captured championships in two regional tournaments: Holiday on the Hill, hosted at McDaniel College from December 27-28, and the Charm City DMV Snowball Classic, hosted at Howard Community College from January 31-February 1. The girls went a combined 8-1 across both events.

At Holiday on the Hill, the team finished 5-0 and secured the championship with an overtime victory. At the Snowball Classic, after falling to a strong AAU team on the opening day, the Lady Cobras rebounded to defeat that same opponent in the championship game to finish 3-1.

“These accomplishments are particularly impressive given that our girls compete seasonally, while many of the teams they faced play basketball year-round,” said the Lady Cobras head coach, Megan Taylor.

The team is led by Taylor and assistant coach Andy Giel. Players represent Benfield, Shipley’s Choice, St. John, St. Mary’s and Severn elementary schools. The team includes Betsy Keller, Parker Horn, Savannah Rohe, Bonnie Ford, Maddie Holland, Landrey Reppert, Claire Hebbel, Anna Giel and Rylan Taylor.
