Independence Day Parade Sponsors Present Prizes To Float Winners
Best Overall: The coveted title of Best Overall went to Linstead on the Severn again this year for the neighborhood’s impressive “Chessie the Sea Monster” float. Nancy Greer (far right) of parade sponsor Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi presented the community with a $500 prize.

Best Theme: The Olde Severna Park Improvement Association won the prize for Best Theme this year for its peace-sign-studded groovy float that nodded to the ‘70s, when the Severna Park Independence Day parade was born five decades ago. Award sponsor Peake Speech Therapy presented the group with a check for $500 in mid-July.

Most Patriotic: Chris Scotti (far left) and Pegah Scotti (far right) of Kitchen Tune-Up presented a $500 check to Jeanette McDavitt and Chris Middleton, who accepted the Most Patriotic prize on behalf of the Airman First Class Nathaniel McDavitt Memorial Scholarship Fund.
In the Severna Park Voice’s freestanding parade edition that was published in early July, our staff mislabeled a photo of the Airman First Class Nathaniel McDavitt Memorial Scholarship Fund float. We regret the error.
In the weeks following the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce’s 50th-anniversary Independence Day parade, businesses around town delivered cash prizes to this year’s float winners.
