People can finally go back to celebrating the holiday season with friends, neighbors and family after being stuck inside during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Adding to the excitement, live theater and concerts have returned, so make sure to go out and support these events, listed by date.

“White Christmas”

Toby’s Dinner Theatre
November 5-January 9

Two World War II veterans with a successful song-and-dance act follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters to their Christmas show at a rural Vermont lodge in this family musical. Based on the beloved film, “White Christmas” includes 17 of Irving Berlin’s most memorable songs.

“I could not be prouder of this dynamic production we have onstage for the holiday season,” said director Mark Minnick. “The wardrobe is stunning, the cast is outstanding, and our live orchestra brings Irving Berlin’s score to life!”

“A Christmas Carol”

Pasadena Theatre Company
December 2-12

This production of “A Christmas Carol” was adapted for the stage by Savage Mill resident Chuck Dick, who died this past year. In his honor, this year’s production will take place on the stage on which it first appeared.

“A Christmas Carol”

Colonial Players

The Colonial Players will perform “A Christmas Carol,” both in-person and online. Written more than 35 years ago by then-local playwright and lyricist Rick Wade, this year’s production will be directed by his daughter.

Rams Head On Stage has several upcoming shows. The first is “Maddie Poppe’s Acoustic Christmas” on December 3. Rams Head will then host Carbon Leaf on December 10-12, Peter Mayer on December 20, and Damien Escobar on December 22. “The Nutcracker”

Chesapeake Ballet Company
December 11-19

Follow Clara and her Nutcracker Prince through the magical snow forest to the land of the sweets where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy. This classic winter tale, portrayed beautifully through dance, is coming to Chesapeake Ballet Company. After taping and posting last year’s performance online as a means of sharing the holiday spirit despite the condition of the world, Chesapeake Ballet Company expects this year’s performance to be met with high anticipation.

“We are very excited to be back in the theater live this year,” said Barabara Haskell, a representative from the Chesapeake Ballet Company. “This year, our performance will be live albeit socially distanced to keep everyone safe.”

“The Nutcracker”

Ballet Theatre of Maryland
December 11-19

Giving fans in-person, livestreamed and prerecorded viewing options, Ballet Theatre of Maryland is hoping to welcome audiences of all ages to “experience a timeless holiday tradition and allow yourself to be magically swept away by a tale that captures the spirit of the holiday season,” said Olivia Fohsz, the office manager for Ballet Theatre of Maryland.

Make sure to get your tickets soon, not only because these shows will sell out but also so you and your loved ones can ring in the holiday season the right way.
