Green Hornets Football Team Becomes Three-Time County Champs

The 12U Green Hornets team won the Anne Arundel County Youth Football Association B championship in dominant fashion against the Pasadena Panthers on November 9. The 39-16 victory marked the third consecutive year this team has won the county championship.

Defensive coach Blake Fockler set the tone for the game with a fiery huddle speech after the Panthers chose to receive the ball to start the game.

“It is championship Sunday,” he told the team. “This is what we do every year. This defense is dominating this series and all day. Let’s go win another trophy!”

The Hornets’ defense stopped the Panthers in quick fashion, forcing them to turn over the ball on downs. The Hornets offense went to work. Three plays later, quarterback Wyatt Priem threw a 25-yard pass to tight end Jameson Brown, who ran into the end zone for the Hornets’ first touchdown. Severna Park continued the offensive attack and dominated defense and special teams plays en route to another title.

“The boys worked hard all season and battled through a number of injuries to become three-peat champions,” said head coach Ryan Priem. “‘Next man up’ became our saying during practice. I am so proud of them; they deserve this honor. When we put this team together with a core group in the third grade, I said we are building something special. Every year, we added more talent to win championships.”

Green Hornets football commissioner Sean Killduff had high praise for the team.

“Coach Priem’s team won their first championship three years ago when I became commissioner. The entire Green Hornets organization couldn’t be prouder of their development and success on the field,” he said. “This team has set a high bar of excellence for our football program not only on the field, but also, the parent support during games is the golden standard for all of our teams.
