Green Hornets 8U Baseball Team Prevails In Armed Forces SlugFest

The Severna Park Green Hornets 8U Green team won three games to capture the 2025 Armed Forces SlugFest championship for their age group. The tournament was held in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in June.

Wins over Ole Liners (7-2), API Academy (5-2) and the Bowie Bulldogs (5-0) led the team to the title.

The Green team got stellar pitching, allowing four runs in three games. John Bass, Rhodes Metzger, Kit O’Dell, Jay Watson, Jacob Lewis and Carter Carroll each notched at least three strikeouts, and no pitcher allowed more than two runs.

Severna Park’s bats were also strong with home runs from Patrick Cassilly, Jacob Lewis and Nathaniel Clause. Carter Carroll nearly joined them. He had three doubles — two almost being home runs as they hit the top of the wall. Luke Obringer led the team with three RBIs over the weekend. Harrison Karsner, Jack Logue and Padraig Murray each had an RBI.

The team received a trophy, and each player received their own dog tags. Each set of tags had a different Medal of Honor recipient. Players were told to research their hero and share their story with their families.

Head coach Steve Metzger — along with assistant coaches Scott Clause, Ryan Logue, Mark O’Dell and Matt Lewis — said the Armed Forces SlugFest proved to be a fitting end to an enjoyable season.

“I’m incredibly proud of this group — not just for winning, but for how much they’ve grown and how much they truly enjoyed playing together,” coach Metzger said. “Their hard work and chemistry made this a special season.”
