Green Hornets 2016 Boys Select Soccer Seizes Division Championship

In their final tournament appearance, the Green Hornets 2016 boys select soccer team played in the Soccer Association of Columbia Memorial Day tournament and won the U10 Elite Division championship in dramatic fashion.

Led by head coach Tony Malcom and assistant coach Mat Merriman, the boys battled top teams from the region and advanced to the division championship. At the end of regulation time, the score was tied 1-1 and the teams immediately moved to penalty kicks to decide the victor. The 2016 boys were flawless in their execution, not missing a single penalty kick as they won 7-6.

“They showed grit and determination, playing through less-than-ideal weather conditions, while showcasing skill and tenacity defeating top teams in the elite bracket,” Merriman said.
