For the Severna Park girls soccer team, championships have almost become the standard. It will be tougher this season, but the pieces are there to make yet another run.
Broadneck, on the other hand, is looking to take the next progression in their rebuild.
The two teams will battle in Broadneck’s home opener on September 9.
After going 20 years between state championships, the Falcons made it two in two in 2024. But they lost several key components to that squad, most notably All-American midfielder Abby Cover.
They return several important pieces from the last two championships, though. Senior twins Emerson and Ava Scott, who have committed to Florida Atlantic and Flagler, respectively, headline the returning squad. The same goes for forward Maria Bragg, who committed to Florida for lacrosse.
Sixth-year coach Rick Stimpson said the team’s depth is stronger than in the past couple of seasons, though losing the heart of their midfield is something they’ll have to rectify early in the season. Junior Izzy Burleson, now a three-year varsity player, will help anchor the engine room.
Their season starts with a bang, with their first three games against Severn School, Broadneck and Chesapeake.
The Bruins are continuing their youth movement, having graduated a handful of seniors from last year and only having three in 2025.
Hadley and Natalie Crooks, two of the seniors, will give experience to a squad laden with freshmen and sophomore talent. Lola Banks and Reagan Milnes, both sophomore forwards, give skill and assertiveness in attack, while freshman midfielder Alyssa Watson and sophomore goalkeeper Cameron Terhune add to the youthful energy.
John Camm, now in his 22nd year as coach, said the team should be skillful and aggressive, but defending as a unit will make or break the squad’s fortunes in 2025.
Broadneck opens the season with a two-game date at Glen Burnie on September 6.
Note: Information for Severn School and Archbishop Spalding was not received by press time.
