Friends Of Kinder Farm Park To Host “Planting With Purpose” Speaker

Posted

As part of its speaker series, the Friends of Kinder Farm Park will sponsor its next speaker on September 28, when Maxine Yoon, home horticulture educator and a Master Gardener coordinator for the University of Maryland, will present a talk on “Planting with Purpose.”

The talk will highlight how native plant gardens can support beneficial insect biodiversity. Her presentation will take place from 2:00pm-3:00pm in the Harvest Hall at Kinder Farm Park, located at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road in Millersville.

Yoon will detail how use of native plants can offer a powerful, effective way for gardeners to support insect biodiversity, including native bees, butterflies and other pollinators essential for healthy ecosystems. This is critical in this time of rapidly declining insect populations. She will explain how gardeners can use native plants to meet the needs of local wildlife and how these plants form the foundation of food webs. Yoon will present practical tips on how to design and plant a pollinator garden and how to choose the right plants to create year-round habitat.

So, whether you are a seasoned gardener or just getting started, this talk will equip you with the knowledge and inspiration to transform your outdoor space into a haven for pollinators and a vibrant piece of the local ecosystem.

Tickets are required for both Friends members and nonmembers, and they are free for members and $3 for nonmembers. They are available at www.kinderfarmpark.org.
