For four local sports teams, their fall seasons ended in the region semifinals. Three of those teams were eliminated by the eventual state champions in their competition, while the fourth capped a promising season filled with improvement both from beginning to end and from year to year.

4A East II boys soccer

Leonardtown 5, Broadneck 1

The Broadneck boys soccer team fell on the road to Leonardtown in the region final, after falling behind in the game’s first seven minutes. They got within 2-1 in the second half but surrendered three late goals while chasing the equalizer. It’s the third straight year the Bruins’ season has ended at the hands of the team who would later win it all.

Braeden Kelly ended the season with 17 goals in 2025 and 35 for his varsity career. Kelly is one of 10 seniors departing the Broadneck program: Joe Brenner, Ascanio Satta, Quinto Barrett, Brady Miller, T.J. Remson, Mason Kaline, Wyatt Shaw, Abdul Kebbeh and Lewis Tippin also will graduate.

“(The seniors) are responsible for the level of success we’ve had for four years. They all got our culture from day one almost and improved it,” Broadneck boys soccer head coach Sean Tettemer said. “They’ve left behind good players that understand the expectations and what it means to play for Broadneck.”

3A East II boys soccer

Stephen Decatur 1, Severna Park 0 (4-3 SO)

The Falcons’ run ended at the hands of the Seahawks in a dramatic penalty shootout after the regional final ended goalless.

Severna Park was the only team to hold Decatur goalless in the playoffs, as they went on to win the 3A championship.

The Falcons graduate 11 seniors from this year’s squad: Gavin Gerard, Charlie Samples, Garrett Moden, Townsend Neher, Jacob Broadwater, Zach Simpkins, Aiden Min, Braxton Barr, Zach Campbell, Stephen Bacho and Jack Watkins.

3A East II volleyball

Arundel 3, Severna Park 0

After finishing the regular season strong and earning a first-round playoff bye, the Falcons dispatched Stephen Decatur in straight sets in the region semis before falling at Arundel in the final.

The Falcons will say goodbye to seven seniors: Genevieve Willis, Lizzie Ranaghan, Abby Roberts, Kathryn Rojek, Gabi Villegas, Viviana Willis and Stella Kiddney.

4A East II field hockey

Leonardtown 5, Broadneck 0

The Bruins came up short in the region final, breaking a string of three straight region titles. Broadneck faced pressure early and often, struggling to keep pace with a Raiders team that went on to win their first state title in 30 years.

Trish Maloney made an eye-popping 38 saves in goal for Broadneck.

The Bruins will graduate six seniors from this year’s squad: Alyssa Lewis, Abbie Mahoney, Charlotte Robertson, Norah Ulsh, Layla Nicholas and Olivia Weaver.
