The core of this iteration of the Severna Park softball team is entering a third season together. That experience, they hope, is starting to pay off. So far, so good, but a setback against longtime power Northeast reminded the Falcons there is still work to do.
The team exited spring break having won three games against Crofton (10-0), North County (8-2), and Severn Run (16-0), in addition to the 8-3 loss to Northeast.
The Falcons have come up with a collective action at the plate, led by Megan Young at the top of the lineup. Young is batting .533 with six runs scored, a double, triple, home run, and seven RBIs. Andrea Rom is hitting .462 with six runs scored, and Ella Kassel is hitting .615 with six RBIs.
In the circle, Arkansas commit Quinlyn Bary has 40 strikeouts and a 2-1 record in 19 innings pitched. She’s also helped herself out at the plate, with a .444 batting average, three extra-base hits, and four RBIs. Abby Trust logged the team’s other win, striking out seven batters in five innings.
Asked about season prospects, head coach Bailey Benedick pinpointed team consistency as the key factor in how far they can go.
Severna Park has three games a week for the foreseeable future, highlighted by an April 17 matchup with Chesapeake.
