CoreLife Makes Healthy, Sustainable Weight Loss Attainable

“Growing up, my brother always struggled with his weight. We had the same parents, ate the same meals, did the same things, yet at his peak he weighed 400 pounds while I was 200. It raised serious questions,” Sean Kostkowski, founder and owner of CoreLife, recalled of his initial interest in healthy weight loss. “Doctors always tell patients to lose weight, eat healthy and exercise, but there are more factors involved and no true solutions for sustainable weight loss.”

Kostkowski spotlighted alarming statistics: Approximately 65 percent of Americans are overweight, 35 percent are obese, and roughly one in three children and teens is overweight. “Obesity is the biggest issue we deal with today in America. It’s a fact that America is getting bigger, and if we continue in current trends, we’ll have a disaster in 20 years,” he explained. “The bottom line is, there are more McDonalds and Wendy’s popping up on every corner, and [seemingly] no solution.”

In May 2012, after helping his brother lose 200 pounds, Kostkowski opened CoreLife medical weight loss center in Severna Park to help people transform their health through fitness training, nutritionist-guided dieting, meal replacements and natural supplements. A team of four personal trainers, two nurses, a nutritionist, a doctor and a receptionist are focused on the singular goal of achieving safe, lasting weight loss.

The Severna Park Village facility boasts a private gym, open 24/7 for members, where clients can exercise with a personal trainer one-on-one or in a group in individualized programs. “Our fitness studio has a very comfortable environment – you won’t have a size-two running 15 miles next to you, intimidating you,” Kostkowski highlighted.

Adjacent to the gym, patients learn about personalized nutrition plans, address dietary concerns and changes, learn about balanced meal replacements, and receive undivided, expert attention with doctors and nutritionists in one of CoreLife’s patient rooms, which are designed to feel more like a spa than a doctor’s office. Additionally, they can investigate the effectiveness of vitamin B-12 and Lipo-B injections, which accelerate weight loss by boosting metabolism and energy levels when paired with diet and exercise.

CoreLife also offers individualized plans for children and teens that include nutrition counseling and personal training. “The team here is amazing, and we all have one goal: to make people healthy through helping them lose weight,” Kostkowski explained. “Our staff realize the problems [people face] are not just overeating and not exercising. Not all people need to be treated the same way to be successful; we don’t put all of our patients in a box, and that’s why they are very successful.”

Kostkowski grew up in Severna Park, attending St. John’s and Severna Park middle and high schools before obtaining his degree at the University of Delaware. His passion for his hometown is evident in how he runs CoreLife: He opens his doors for local youth to fitness train at no cost, and likewise doesn’t charge adults who cannot afford payment because their health is of greater value to him. Although the weight loss center is still young, Kostkowski and his team are planning a 5K family fun run and informative sessions with area schools.

Expansion is also on their horizon. “We recognize [weight loss] is not just a need in Severna Park, but universally,” Kostkowski explained, adding that new CoreLife locations will open in Pasadena, West County and other locations this spring.

CoreLife is located at 579 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard in the Severna Park Village shopping center above BB&T. To learn more about their services, or to get started on the path to healthy, sustainable weight loss, call 410-975-5447 or visit www.corelifemd.com.
