From the familiar Peanuts gang and a Christmas classic to a quirky tale of love under the northern lights, Compass Rose Theater is bringing a varied lineup of musicals and plays to Annapolis for its 2026-2027 season.
Productions will be held at Live Arts Studio at Annapolis Mall and the Bowen Theater at Maryland Hall.
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will run through October 4 at Live Arts Studio at the Annapolis Mall. Directed by Tracy Adler, with music direction by Barrett Johnson, the production focuses on Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang as they play baseball, grapple with teachers and homework, sing songs, and celebrate the joy of friendship. The show is based on the comic strip by Charles Schulz, with book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesne.
“It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” runs November 20 through December 5 at Live Arts Studio at the Annapolis Mall. Adapted by Joe Landry and based on the story “The Greatest Gift” by Phillip Van Doren Stern, the play is directed by Gary Goodson and brings Frank Capra’s classic film to the stage. The radio play adaptation tells the heartwarming tale of George Bailey as he reflects on his life on Christmas Eve.
“Almost, Maine” opens the new year on January 15 and runs through February 7 at Live Arts Studio. On a clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not what it seems in the remote town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. The play is directed by Madeline Austin and was written by Jonathan Cariani.
“Godspell” rounds out the season and runs March 5-21 at Maryland Hall’s Bowen Theater. Directed by Tracy Adler, the musical was conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love is based on the Gospel of Matthew.
