Celebrate Halloween With Haunted Houses, Terrifying Trails

Halloween is approaching, and if you’re looking for a place get your fill of frights and terrors, consider visiting these attractions in Maryland and beyond.

Laurel’s House of Horrors

Laurel, Maryland

Laurel’s House of Horror occupies the “Old Movie Theater” cinema complex, nestled in the back corner of Laurel Centre Mall. The historic theater was abandoned by its former occupants years ago. Having had their own paranormal experiences on the property, the owners first invited the Chesapeake Ghost Hunters to do an analysis of the property. During their investigation, they found signs of other-worldly activity at the location. Since then, many other ghost-hunting groups have spent time investigating and observing.

This season's haunted house features the new Carlisle Hotel, which is trapped in the 1940s. Find your way through the cinema complex, including the newly created Cat's Casino. This year, Laurel’s House of Horrors has upgraded its experiences with more sensory overload, gruesome makeup and interactive characters.

Six Flags Fright Fest

Station 7 Terror Trail

This family friendly haunt raises money for the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department. The scary Terror Trail is for ages 8 and older, and the non-scary Boo Haunt Loop is geared toward younger guests.

Bennett’s Curse

At Bennett’s Curse, visit The Underworld, where demons, vampires, hideous monstrosities, and evil men of a wicked and limitless imagination were born. For a different experience, enter the Legends of Halloween exhibit to find wicked witches, giant spiders, classic monsters, mummies, werewolves, a living forest, scarecrows, ghosts and a haunted cemetery.

The new and improved show “The Inferno in 3D” promises to take guests or “souls” into the world of the most dreaded and feared place imaginable as they traverse through the circles of an inferno. “Souls” will be given a special pair of special 3D glasses to bring this attraction to life.

Field of Screams

Voted as “Best Haunted Attraction” in USA Today’s Readers’ Choice contest for 2022, Field of Screams has several spooky attractions. The Haunted Trail offers 13 stations of campground fears that wind through the forest. Haunted houses dot the trail with their terrifying looks, sounds, animation and props. Trail of Terror includes a 30-minute walk through a haunted forest with 13 small haunted houses that are full of horrific sites and zombies. Lastly, check out the Slaughter Factory attraction where buzz saws pierce the air and heavy machinery vibrates the ground.

Madhaunters

Packed with more jump scares than a slasher movie marathon, Madhunter’s Madhouse is a frightening haunted attraction that is for serious veteran attendees.
