Broadneck Girls Win Indoor County Championship

The girls Anne Arundel County Public Schools indoor track meet was a tightly-contested competition, with three teams separating themselves above the rest on Tuesday.

In the end, Broadneck's prowess in the relays and field events eclipsed Severna Park's distance dominance and Crofton's overall consistency, as the Bruins claimed the team title by 11.5 points over Crofton, with Severna Park a further 6.5 back in third place.

Both local schools had multiple winners and high finishers. For Broadneck, Nkechi Streete won the long jump and triple jump and finished second in the high jump. Dana Doubek claimed victory in the pole vault and was third in the high jump. All three Bruin relays finished in the top four.

The Falcons swept the distance races: Siena Pegues was the first of three Falcons in the top four of the 800, Josie Kamas led a one-two-three Falcon finish in the 1,600, and Grace Redmond led a one-two in the 3,200. Redmond anchored the team's 4x800 win, where she teamed with Harper Wallace, Kathryn Murphy and Lexi Fitzsimmons to win.

On the boys side, Broadneck finished a distant second in the team standings to Crofton, while Severna Park finished third.

Myles Bryan won the long jump for Broadneck with a leap of 21 feet, 3 inches, and he finished second in the triple jump by two inches to Severna Park's Matthew Williams (42 feet, 7 inches). In the relays, Severna Park's foursome of Collin Denton, Jaxon Bradley, Collin Blain and Matthew Zimmerman edged Broadneck's quartet of Nate Weinbaum, Ashton McGhee-Rivero, Carter Johnson and Terrell McClellon Jr., to win the 4x200 relay by a little more than a second.
