Broadneck Girls Lax Falls To Urbana In Quarterfinal Classic

Loss Ends Bruins’ Title Streak At Five

Broadneck’s run of five straight girls lacrosse state championships ended in the 2026 4A state quarterfinals, as the Bruins fell 8-7 to eventual state champion Urbana on a last-second goal.

Instead of the teams meeting in the state final like the two previous seasons, the seeding chart and a coin toss put the Bruins and Hawks together in the quarterfinal round.

Urbana controlled most of the game, though Broadneck had chances to get back into it. The Bruins were denied on free position attempts in the dying seconds of each of the first three quarters. Urbana’s knockout punch came in the last seconds of the fourth.

After Broadneck had clawed back from a three-goal deficit to tie the game, the Bruins netted a turnover in the final minute and had the opportunity to take the lead on the game’s final sustained possession, but the shot was saved and play quickly went the other way.

In the ensuing chaos, Urbana got a free run right down the middle of the defense, and the Hawks took that opportunity with just nine seconds remaining, settling the game and ending Broadneck’s reign atop Maryland 4A girls lacrosse.

Broadneck finishes the season with a 12-6 record and will graduate seven seniors: Nya Williams, Anna Claire Tighlman, Alyssa Lewis, Charlotte Robertson, Madison Luckett, Nora Lopes and Riley Gillins.
