Sweep Over North Point Sends Broadneck Volleyball To Region Finals

Posted

Broadneck overcame the loss of senior leader Brin Chestnut in the first set to sweep North Point 3-0 in the 4A East Region II semifinals on Monday night. The Bruins will head to Leonardtown for a region final rematch with the Raiders on Wednesday.

The host Bruins ran out to a quick lead and maintained control to take the first set 25-15. After North Point opened the second set with the first point, Broadneck's Sydney Lawrence ran off 15 consecutive service points to effectively put the set out of reach as the Bruins pulled away 25-6.

The Eagles came out composed in the third set and began to disrupt Broadneck's rhythm at the net. However, the Bruins ultimately were too strong and closed out the match with a 25-21 third-set victory.

Broadneck was led by Lawrence with 24 service points, including nine aces, five kills, 30 assists and six digs. Allie Chestnut added 14 service points, including four aces, two kills and 14 digs.
