St. John The Evangelist Pastor Announces New School Principal

When Casey Buckstaff, current St. John the Evangelist School principal, announced her plan to step down at the conclusion of the current academic year, a search committee was formed to identify a gifted and passionate leader who shares the mission of St. John the Evangelist School before the end of the current academic year. Many qualified applicants were reviewed; however, the new principal was already part of the St. John family. On April 22, the Rev. Erik Arnold announced that Glenna Blessing has been appointed as the new principal, effective July 1.

With more than 22 years of combined classroom and leadership experience, Blessing is a seasoned educator and administrator who has worked in both public and private school environments. Her dedication to the field of education has involved various leadership roles, including teacher, department chair, assistant principal, principal and assistant professor. For the past two years, Blessing has served as the beloved assistant principal at St. John the Evangelist School, where her commitment to the community’s mission is evident in her work with faculty, staff, parents and students.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Goucher College and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon. Currently, she is working toward a Doctor of Education in educational leadership, specializing in curriculum and instruction at Wilkes University, with expected completion in the spring of 2024. Additionally, Blessing holds a graduate certificate in leadership in technology integration from Johns Hopkins University, an advanced professional certificate (APC) and an Maryland State Department of Education administrator I/II certification.

Buckstaff is stepping down after nine years as principal at St. John the Evangelist School. She is relocating out of state to take on the role of president of a Catholic high school. Following the 11:00am Mass on May 19, a reception in Buckstaff’s honor will be held in the parish activities center. All are welcome to attend.
