Troop 531 Helps Shelter Animals

Posted

Girl Scout Troop 531 members created this poster. The girls are fifth-graders at Oak Hill Elementary. As Junior Girl Scouts, they can design a project to earn their Bronze Award. The troop focused its project on helping shelter animals. Each girl needs to log 20 hours to earn the award. The girls built small houses for cats to replace ones that were falling apart at a local rescue. Then they made wish bracelets that they donated to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County to encourage people to make donations. Finally, they are each working on an outreach message (via newspaper, social media, or flyers) to encourage adoption, spaying and neutering pets; to inform people what to do if they find a stray animal; and to educate owners about good pet care practices.
