Stephanie Verni, a Severna Park author and professor of communication at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, has released her sixth book entitled “From Humbug to Humble: The Transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge.” The novella follows Scrooge in the years after he is visited by the three ghosts and delves into exactly how he changed for the better.

What good deeds did Scrooge do to leave behind his life as an old miser and curmudgeon? What became of Tiny Tim? And did Scrooge ever find love? Verni was plagued by these questions and explores the answers, keeping with the flavor of Charles Dickens and his masterpiece, “A Christmas Carol.” As a longtime Dickens fan and writer, Verni imagines Scrooge’s path to redemption that includes philanthropy, family, friendships and love. Dickens fans will be treated to a story that illuminates Scrooge’s transformation in this heartwarming tale full of Christmas spirit that features characters such as Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s nephew Fred, Isabelle, Tiny Tim, and some new ones in this charming Christmas tale.

“This novella came into being after a discussion at last year’s Christmas table where we all talked about Scrooge and what might have been after the spirits set him straight,” Verni said. “Plus, I’ve been obsessed with this story since I was little, so I figured I would try my hand at figuring out Scrooge’s path forward, since we know from Dickens that it was a happy and fulfilling one. I just tried to fill in the blanks, and I hope other Scrooge fans will love it.”

As a full-time faculty member in the communication department at Stevenson University, Verni instructs writing and communication courses. She has written five other works of fiction, “Beneath the Mimosa Tree” (2012), “Baseball Girl” (2015), “Inn Significant” (2017), “The Postcard” (2018) and “Little Milestones” (2019). She also has another promotional novella available on Amazon, for the Kindle, called “Anna in Tuscany” (2021). Along with two of her colleagues, she is coauthor of the textbook “Event Planning: Communicating Theory & Practice” (2019), published by Kendall-Hunt.
