Get Crooked At AAC’s Newest Festival

Are you ready to get crooked?

This summer, Crooked Crab Brewing Company is hosting its inaugural Get Crooked Fest, which brings together local breweries and local musicians to benefit a local cause.

“We really wanted to bring something to Anne Arundel County specifically where they can come out, not have to drive to Baltimore, not have to go to D.C., and enjoy live music in the county with some great bands,” said Daniel Messeca, co-founder of Crooked Crab Brewing. “To be able to pair that with a good cause was a no-brainer for us. It was an idea that we had that was floating around for a long time.”

Get Crooked Fest will benefit the Oyster Recovery Partnership, a nonprofit organization dedicated to oyster restoration in the Chesapeake Bay.

“We’re all Maryland born and raised, so there are few causes that are nearer and dearer to Marylanders than the health of the Chesapeake Bay,” Messeca said. “We wanted something that was locally focused. This seemed like a great opportunity to start a relationship together that hopefully will continue into the future.”

The festival features Jimmie’s Chicken Shack as the headlining band, and five other bands will perform: Yellow Dubmarine, Joey Harkum, Burt the Dirt, Stolen Rhodes and Justin Shapiro.

“We’re excited to have Jimmie’s Chicken Shack headlining, which, to me, is the quintessential Maryland rock band,” Messeca said.

Five Maryland breweries will be featured at the festival: Crooked Crab, Hysteria, Jailbreak, Monument City and RaR.

“When you’re in, you’ll be able to buy special-release beer from breweries that you’d otherwise have to travel to, but it’s all going to be in one place,” Messeca said.

All pours will be $5. In addition to beer, Great Frogs will serve wine, also for $5. The festival features a variety of food trucks, including Breaking the Borders, Mother Shuckers, Smoke Rattle & Roll, Taco Bar and Wanna Pizza This.

There will be games available, including cornhole, can jam and Jenga.

The goal of the festival is to help people be part of the “local scene” and share a common experience that’s rooted in everything Maryland.

“It’s all about local with the festival,” Messeca said. “As things get more technology-based, it gets easier to let go of where you’re from. You can find things all over the world. To bring communities together, you really need to be in person in one place experiencing the same thing.”

Get Crooked Fest will be at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 1. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Doors open at 2:00pm, and the music goes until 9:00pm. Learn more about the festival and purchase tickets at www.getcrookedfest.com.
