Spurs Are Seventh/Eighth Grade Champs

With a win over the Bulls, the Spurs took the crown in the Green Hornets seventh/eighth grade boys basketball championship.

Head coach Nate Hill credited point guard and leading scorer Conner Hall as the glue that kept the team together.

“Conner is a great kid, and he can shoot from anywhere on the court,” Nate Hill said. “Charlie Cavanaugh was a force and definitely one of the vocal leaders. He frequently drew double teams in almost every game because he is that good off the dribble.”

Colby Evans was one of the team’s top scorers and defenders, and “his attitude is what all coaches look for in a teammate,” Nate said.

Connor Hill outrebounded some of the biggest kids in the league, Patrick Cornwall added a high shooting percentage, Brady Howard single-handedly iced several games with his offense, and Victor Vazquez and Henry Stein added great defense.

“They were not the loudest players on the team, but they led the team with some very impressive blocks,” Nate said of the two defenders. “They made life pretty hard for all shooters in the paint.”

The coach also praised Nicholas Martins and Roman Cleven for always hustling and scoring clutch baskets. Declan Sprinkel rounded out the team.
