Mesa Lacrosse, a nationally recognized youth lacrosse club based in Philadelphia, has expanded its operations to Maryland and is now providing coaching and training for the Severna Park Green Hornets Boys Select lacrosse teams. Travis Loving, who is the assistant coach for the Severna Park High School boys varsity lacrosse team and co-founder of Mesa Lacrosse, is leading the new program.
“There’s a lot of lacrosse talent in Severna Park and Anne Arundel County, but the area was lacking a single, unifying program for kids to play for up to and through high school,” Loving said. “We are running a program whereby kids from Severna Park and the surrounding areas get to stay and play together from third to 12th grade and receive first-rate instruction from lacrosse players who not only competed at the game’s highest levels, but who also have vast coaching experience.”
Launched in 2007, Mesa Lacrosse is a highly competitive travel club that emphasizes intense fundamentals and skills development, smaller team rosters, individualized coaching and mentorship, good sportsmanship and work ethic.
Mesa is currently directing summer lacrosse for the Green Hornets 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029 Select teams. Mesa will add the 2024, 2025, and 2030 Select teams this fall, and will manage them in the offseasons and provide spring training. Tryouts for the 2020-21 season will be held on August 9 and 16 at Severna Park High School. For details on tryouts, visit, www.mesalacrosse.com/mesa-2020-21-tryouts---maryland.html.
“Mesa is a great platform for youth lacrosse in the Severna Park area. It will help us retain local talent, keep players and friends advancing their lacrosse abilities together, and will ensure the strength and depth of the Severn Park lacrosse programs for years to come,” said Jim Lighthizer, commissioner of Green Hornets boys lacrosse. “Travis’ abilities as a coach and leader are reflected in the building of Mesa Lacrosse, his success at Severna Park High School, and his reputation as one of the best high school and youth lacrosse coaches in the country.”
Loving founded Mesa Lacrosse with two nationally celebrated coaching greats, John Nostrant and Mark Petrone. Loving grew up in Crofton and played lacrosse at Arundel High School, where he graduated in 1991, and went on to play at West Point. For 18 years, he taught math and coached lacrosse at The Haverford School in Pennsylvania, where his teams won two high school national championships in 2011 and 2015. Loving became an assistant coach at Severna Park High School in 2019 where he helped lead the Falcons to a 4A state title.
