SPES Presents Annual Shining Star Variety Show

Posted

Severna Park Elementary School’s annual PTA Variety Show will be held April 5 this year.
Now in its 13th year, the variety show has raised more than $7,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation since 2015. This year, all proceeds from the show will benefit the Fortney Breast Center at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

“We decided, especially with being such a community-based school, that it would be nice to change it to something more local,” said Shannon Pearson, one of the show’s executive directors this year.

The show features 46 acts and 150 students having their shining star moments. Audiences can expect to see magic, hula-hooping, singing, dancing and even taekwondo this year.

Each act lasts 90 seconds to two minutes, so the show runs roughly two-and-a-half hours.
This year, the production staff is entirely new. Pearson and Joe Comer are the executive producers, and Melissa Connelly is the assistant producer. Fifth-grade teacher Jennie Merrill is staying in her role as stage manager.

“We are trying to keep within the same vein of giving each kid the opportunity to have their shining star moment and showcasing their talents,” Pearson said.

A variety of concessions will be available in the lobby: popcorn, cookies, cupcakes, candy and bottled water. All proceeds from the concessions will be donated to the Fortney Breast Center, as well.

The SPES PTA Variety Show will be held Friday, April 5, at Severna Park Elementary. The show starts at 7:00pm. While tickets aren’t required, there is a suggested $5 donation per person. All proceeds from the show benefit the Fortney Breast Center.
