SP Swim Tops Broadneck, South River, Annapolis Ahead Of Counties

The Severna Park boys and girls swim teams both came away with a trio of wins from the January 31 meet against Broadneck, South River and Annapolis at Arundel Olympic Swim Center.

The Falcon boys defeated Annapolis and South River by comfortable margins and edged out the Bruins, 49.00 to 45.00. On the girls side, Severna Park defeated Broadneck 59.00 to 35.00 to go with victories over South River and Annapolis. The Bruin boys went 2-1 at the meet, and the Bruin girls fell to South River to go 1-2.

Winners and top performers abounded for the Falcons. On the girls side, Sara Smith won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. Maddie Goger won the 100 free. Camryn Raines won the 100 breaststroke, and teammate Krista Gretz was second. The 200 free relay team of Goger, Gretz, Raines and Smith won the event.

On the boys side, Morgan Sloan won the 50 free. Tyler Moran won the 100 free and the 100 backstroke. Charlie Pitta finished second in the 500 free. Andrew Gillespie was second in the 100 breast. Ben Simpkins and Sloan finished 1-2 in the 200 free. In the 400 free relay, Moran, Pitta, Sloan and Simpkins teamed to win.

For the Broadneck boys, Matt Cembrano won the 100 fly and the 100 breast. The 200 medley relay team of Luke Schwenk, Cembrano, Hunter Fulton and Sam Bertinatti won. The 200 free relay team of Schwenk, Bertinatti, Fulton and Clark Gabe won.

For the Broadneck girls, Caitlin Deitch won the 200 free and the 100 fly. Brayden Bowen won the 50 free and the 100 back. The 200 medley relay team of Kim Horn, Caitlin Deitch, Brayden Bowen and Grace Leuders won, and the same quartet teamed to win the 400 free relay.

The county championship meet is on February 7.
