Severna Park Golf Center An Integral Part Of The Community

When owners Rob Brilliant and Jim Davidson purchased the Severna Park Golf Center several years ago, they never knew how much additional financial commitment it would take to make the center vibrant and attractive to residents in the Severna Park area.

“We are committed to making the golf center a great place to play on our state-of-the art miniature golf course, our newly irrigated par-three golf course, driving range and the new batting park,” Brilliant said.

Brilliant, who wanted to market the center to the entire family, has started unique programs like the ladies nine-hole league on Tuesday nights called “9 and wine” where ladies play the par three course and have wine after playing. The cost for the “9 and wine” is, of course, only $9.

“We are always looking to market to new audiences and when we purchased the center we realized it needed a new set of eyes,” said Brilliant.

After experiencing some of Maryland’s recent droughts, he placed irrigation in the par-three course and uses the man-made pond as the water supply.

“There’s no public water on the course so we devised a pump for the irrigation and it has really helped the course stay green throughout the summer,” he said.

The center seems to always have folks using the four components, but Brilliant says the driving range gets the most usage followed by the par-three course, miniature golf and batting park.

“We get a ton of beginners on the par-three course and lots of dads teaching their sons and daughters the game there,” admits Brilliant.

The center has a new concept as well with the “batting park.” The old batting cages were removed several years ago because they kept breaking down. Now, in the new “batting park” you don’t need a net and batters can hit balls into an open area of the driving range and a newly-designed picker scoops them up and recycles them to the pitching machines.

Brilliant, a real estate lawyer and avid golfer, wanted to get involved with this “labor of love,” but also wanted to be involved in the Severna Park community.

“We are involved with the Green Hornets, attending events such as opening day to promote our batting park to the players, and to see what else we can help with,” said Brilliant. “Many school golf teams use our facilities, such as Anne Arundel Community College and Broadneck High.”

The center maintains its focus of being family friendly by offering very reasonable prices. To play nine holes of golf on the par-three course, it is $11 on week days and $12.50 on weekends. For a bucket of balls on the driving range, it’s $12 for a 150 golf balls and miniature golf is $8 per person.
