The Severna Park Girls Storm won the U14/U15 division of the 2022 Arundel Cup tournament over the weekend of October 8-9. They made it through their four games undefeated with just a lone tie, and they finished with a 2-0 win over BUSA ’08G.

Serena Saab, Ava Thomas, Victoria Gargano and Lyla Watson all scored for the Storm, and Brianna Knutsen had several shots come close. The midfield put on a dominant display by controlling possession and creating scoring opportunities.

Coach Matt Souder said he was blown away by the combination play the team was able to execute in the tournament and highlighted Maya Shehata’s ability to start off combinations from the center.

Shehata worked with fellow midfielders Leah Croghan, Clara Wall, Kate Espinola, Naiara Allen, Addie Newhard, Sydney Wise and Reese Fleetwood to provide great ball movement and relentless pressure to win possession of the ball.

The defense kept opponents’ chances to a minimum. The backfield is anchored by goalkeeper Quinlyn Bary, center backs Keira McCubbin and Lucy Queen, and rotating outside backs Zoe Souder, Madie Jenkins, Isabella Cojocaru and Abby MacRobbie.

“I'm so impressed with these girls,” Matt Souder said. “We came together this year from like four different teams and they have really worked hard to become one team.”
