Russell Dwyer Plumbing Has Served Severna Park For Over 50 Years

In 1957, Severna Park was already an established and growing town. There were local elementary schools and a middle school, but high school students had to travel to Annapolis. It just so happened 1957 was the year Russell Dwyer, Sr. opened his local plumbing business.

Fast forward over 50 years, and you’ll still find Russell Dwyer Plumbing, but now Russell, Jr. is at the helm, assisted by his wife Sue. Russell took over from his dad in 1973 and has been at it ever since.

“It was the family business,” he explains. “I enjoyed it… worked at it since I was 14 years old, over summers.”

Since the beginning Dwyer says it’s the customers who keep them where they are, that and their building. Asked what he believes sets the business apart, Dwyer was quick to respond, “Longevity, we’ve been around for a long time. We offer great customer service and the personal touch.”

Like many businesses, Russell Dwyer Plumbing has been impacted by recent economic shifts, and like many business owners Dwyer hopes for a turn around. “Things have changed over the years,” he explains. “Some positive and some negative. Right now, new construction is down, and rehab work is up.”

According to Sue Dwyer the company takes great pride in its local roots. “We hire local employees,” explains Sue. “Russ grew up here; he has lived here his whole life.”

She laughs when she talks about the big red trucks the company uses. “We have used the same kind all along; the big, boxy red trucks you see in the neighborhood. We have third generation customers,” Sue says. “It’s a local business that has a reputation of being dependable. Most people know us, they’ve heard of us.” Sue continued, “We stand behind our work.”

They are a full-service company, from repairs to rehabs and new construction. They also offer video pipe inspections and backflow management, an issue that Sue says not enough people realize how important this is. A backflow management system essentially keeps water (and less pleasant things) from backing up into pipes and contaminating drinking water.

Dwyer is a man of few words, and when asked if there was anything else he’d like to share, his concern was about educating consumers. “Whenever you go to get some work done,” he explains, “whatever construction company you choose, make sure they’re licensed and insured.”

Of course, everyone at Russell Dwyer Plumbing is licensed at county and state levels, and the company is insured properly, because that’s what their customers deserve.

Dwyer is active in the community, supporting the county plumbing commission and working on a boat act advisory board.

One of the oldest businesses in the community – they have done work for a variety of local churches and fire departments - they are easy to reach at 410-647-3030. They are located at 8377 Jumpers Hole Road.
