Oak Hill's “Sweet Event” Delivers $3,947 To Services From The Heart

Posted

For the past 11 years, Pat Anderson, a second-grade teacher at Oak Hill Elementary, has been leading an O Ambassadors holiday candygram sale to raise money for a special charity or cause. This year, Oak Hill raised $3,947, surpassing last year’s mark by more than $900.

Anderson's class sells candygrams for $1. Students purchase the candygrams for classmates, other Oak Hill students, and Oak Hill faculty and staff. The second-grade class led the event by preparing special messages on each candy cane, collecting and counting the money, and taping the special holiday message to each candy cane. Students from third, fourth and fifth grades also served as helpers.

All of the money raised was donated to the Services from the Heart Backpack Buddies Program (www.communityservicesfromtheheart.com). Services from the Heart is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing weekly food backpacks to 95 children attending three schools within Anne Arundel County.
