In an age of nation-wide jewelers, where mass production is the order of the day, the idea of a local shop where the owner personally serves his customers and the majority of the work is done in house is something of a rarity. But that’s exactly what customers find at Marc Todd Jewelers in Park Plaza.

Owner Marc Todd Ours, who does business as Marc Todd, opened the shop in 2004 after over 20 years of servicing customers for other jewelry store owners. A Graduate Gemologist from the Geological Institute of America, Todd brings years of experience with diamonds and precious stones.
“We do the majority of the work on site,” explains Todd. “Most repairs can be done while you wait.”
Todd started in the jewelry business at age 14, spending eight years as apprentice to a family friend in the business. And, as he says, “I just went on from there.”
“Other places had so many people asking for me,” Todd said of his decision to branch out on his own, “I decided to work for myself.”
He started out of his home before finally opening his own store front. Having grown up in Severna Park, Todd felt it was the perfect location to start a small, family-owned business.
“My parents still live here,” Todd explained, “They’ve been here for almost 45 years, in the same house. It’s amazing how many local businesses are owned and run by people who grew up in Severna Park.”
Marc Todd Jewelers is a full service shop, where customers will find everything from watch batteries and bands to one-of-a-kind custom design work. They do insurance and estate appraisals, as well as repairs, even on antique pieces.
“We do a lot of antique and filigree reproductions,” said Todd. “And hand engraving.”
Todd takes pride in the old-fashioned approach he employs, believing his customers want to deal directly with him. “There is no middle man here,” he says.
The company works to support the community too. When Hospice of the Chesapeake needs a donated piece evaluated, appraised and priced correctly, they bring it to Todd. They also support Partners in Care with donations and appraisals.
“We try to support the local schools,” explains Todd, “To help support education.” They recently donated items to support Oak Hill Elementary’s Black and White Auction.
“Traditional jewelry with a modern edge” is Todd’s description of his work. His designs range from antique to contemporary and are totally unique to each client.
