Letter To The Editor: Green Hornets Referees

Posted

I am writing to you about the refereeing in the Green Hornets basketball league. I am a 13-year-old student at Severna Park Middle School and I have played Green Hornets basketball since I was 7. I appreciate all of the time and effort that the Green Hornets volunteers put into their work. After many years of fun, I have noticed that a majority of the referees seem to be not calling the correct fouls. I think it would be a great improvement if the refs were asked by Green Hornets to put more consideration into their calls. Many of these players hope to play high-school-level basketball. When they try out, they will realize that the game is much more aggressive and the fouls are called much more often. Due to the infrequent calls made by the refs, some players are playing too aggressively. When they start playing for a higher-level league, they will start getting called for their fouls and they will foul out of the game. A solution to this problem could be to send a Green Hornets representative to each game to monitor the refs and make sure they are ref'ing the game to the correct standards. Thank you for your time and for allowing me to share my opinion with the Severna Park Voice.
