Knicks Top Pelicans For Club Championship, 20-0 Season

The Green Hornets boys seventh/eighth-grade club basketball championship was decided on February 21 as the Knicks defeated the Pelicans 28-17 at Severn School to win the postseason tournament.

The Knicks, who are Gannon Cope, Isaiah Green, Athan Bigelow, John Burkhardt, Evan Campbell, Trevor Oakes, Gabe Lamberti, Jonathan Mazzola and Brady Jones, finished the season 20-0 overall. The team went 4-0 in the playoffs.

Mike Mazzola coached the Knicks with Justus Burkhardt.

“I thought they played really well together, and they instinctively play really well,” said coach Mazzola. “We kind of lucked out in the draft. I had no idea who half the team was, and I just drafted and got lucky. They all played their roles, and they ended up playing really well together. They had good chemistry just playing rec basketball, so they had a lot of fun, and I just let them go out there and play.”
