The Green Hornets 9U select girls basketball team finished the Anne Arundel County league season with an 11-0 record to claim the championship in the top division. The team also went 6-1 in the Arbutus Girls Travel League of fourth- and fifth-grade teams to place second. Kendall Austin, Presley Davis, Claire Farley, Ella Hartman, Brynn Houghton, Cate Gage, Caroline Mosher, Alex Murray, Finley Silk and Carly Weeks comprise the team, which was coached by Stephanie Hartman, Darby Davis and Eric Silk.
“The girls really excelled as a total team this year,” said coach Hartman. “After almost every game the opposing coach would comment to me about what an unselfish group of girls we had and how impressive our passing and teamwork was for this age level. Every game, each girl contributed in some way, and it was exciting to see different players step up when we needed them to. We asked a lot of the girls in practice and in the games, and they always rose to the challenge. We continued with our defensive intensity this season, which helped us to an undefeated season in the county. Even when we played bigger and more skilled fifth-grade teams in the Arbutus league, the girls never gave up or got down on each other. I am so proud how each of them developed as basketball players this season. The future for SP hoops looks bright!”
