Hoops Roundup January 4: Severna Park Girls Beat Arundel; Falcon Boys Fall Narrowly To Wildcats

The Severna Park girls basketball team overcame a slow start against visiting Arundel on January 3 to lock down defensively and produce a 45-28 win over the Wildcats. Severna Park trailed 14-7 after one quarter of play but allowed only two points in the second quarter, nine in the third and three in the fourth to come away with a win. Severna Park closed the game on a 19-3 run.

Lena McLaughlin had a monster game with 15 points and 17 rebounds, including 9 offensive rebounds, along with 3 steals and 4 assists, to lead Severna Park. Jess Albert added 10 points to go with 3 steals and 2 blocks. Theresa Bragg (8 points, 6 rebounds), Cam Chew (6 points) and Hailey Betch (4 points, 4 rebounds) contributed for the Falcons, who got double-digit minutes from Ella Ryan and Hannah Verreault.

Severna Park is 3-1 in county play with wins over Arundel, Broadneck and Annapolis.

The Severna Park boys excelled in their home tournament over the holiday break but met a tough test in the Wildcats on January 3, falling to the visitors 50-43. Jacob Goodman continued the volume scoring he has produced this season with a game-high 18 points against Arundel. Guards Declan Fox (8 points) and Jack Leverty (7 points) and forward Orion Young (5 points) contributed for the Falcons.
