Green Hornets Sports Succeed With The Help Of Many

Posted

The Greater Severna Park Athletic Association had another good year in 2015.

Throughout four seasons, approximately 7,500 youth athletes participated in one or more of 11 different Green Hornets sports.

Our fourth and final season, winter, is now underway. It’s a perfect time to acknowledge and thank the thousands of volunteers and coaches who help make Green Hornets the preferred club sports league in our area.

Successful leagues start with strong leaders. At Green Hornets we are lucky to have some of the very best and most passionate commissioners:

Baseball – Jeff Moore

Boys Basketball – Liam O’Callaghan

Cheerleading - Michele Boyd

Field Hockey – John Long

Football – Mark Gibson

Boys Lacrosse – Paul Intlekofer

Girls Lacrosse – Kyndle Quinones

Rugby - Peter Freeman

Soccer – Matt Souder

Track and Field - Bill Bamford

Softball – Judy Tacyn

Wrestling – Chad Harris

Our Commissioners lead a dynamic group of 815 volunteers, 765 of whom are coaches. Coaches not only volunteer their time, experience and love of teaching kids how to play sports, but they are also required to invest time in county-required certification and concussion-awareness training. Green Hornets coaches are the backbone of our great organization. To anyone who has ever coached a pre-school through teenaged athlete: thank you. Each one of our kids and the entire Green Hornets organization appreciates your contributions.

Many of our sports use youth athletes as officials, such as in soccer and basketball. These young men and woman are teaching the next generation of players what it means to be a lifelong Green Hornet, and we appreciate each and every one.

Finally, to our parents, we thank you. Interrupted family dinners. Taxi service to and from games and practices. Laundry service for dirty uniforms. Private lessons, offseason workouts, equipment and personal trainers. You do it all. But your greatest gift is your love and support. We know your kids appreciate you, and we do, too.

This holiday season there will likely be sports-related gifts exchanged, pickup basketball games on a chilly outdoor court or spontaneous flag football games played, or perhaps your family will even attend a professional sporting event. However you celebrate through the New Year, thank you for allowing sports and the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association to be part of your family traditions.

On behalf of the entire GSPAA, we wish your family the happiest and healthiest of times, and we look forwarding to seeing your athlete in a Green Hornets uniform in the very near future. Happy Holidays.
