Green Hornets Showcase Offensive Firepower During The 42 Rundown

Posted

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson made his Major League Baseball debut while breaking down racial barriers. In his honor, Sports At The Beach held The 42 Rundown baseball tournament from April 15-16 in Georgetown, Delaware, encouraging young athletes to swipe a few bases without getting caught.

Not only did Green Hornets round the bases a few times during the tournament, but the 11U and 13U teams finished as champions in their respective divisions.

Severna Park’s 11U team had to come back in both the semifinal game and championship game to win the crown. The Green Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the final inning to win the semifinal game, 8-7, and then won the championship game in extra innings, 8-7.

The 13U squad used excellent pitching and defense, with timely hitting, to win their semifinal game 9-4 and the championship game 11-3.

Coaches included Tim Delobe, Paul Oehling, Mike Kessler, Tim Bowerman, Tad Trias, Pete Buck and Jim Viera.

The 13U team included (grey jerseys, left to right) Chase Goldman, Ty Bowerman, Brandon Matta, Tyler Rochon, Jonathan Bullough, Brayden Kiernan, Nathan Peacock, Gavin Allison, Kenny Norris, Evan Chojnowski, Charlie Delobe and TJ Viera.

Comprising the 11U team were (green jerseys, left to right) Dylan Trias, Jackson Dembik, Smith Seidel, Ryan Buck, Cole Zimmerman, Nate Oehling, Nick Kessler, Jeremy Fener, Cooper Bullough, Ben Chu, Will Viera and Davis Balderston.
