Future Planning With Gateway Capitol Financial

In this tough economy, many people are looking for ways to stretch their dollars. Navigating new tax laws, figuring out what to do with changing retirement benefits, how much to contribute to what sort of plan, and a host of other questions are just the start of a sometimes confusing road. Fortunately, there is help available. That’s when folks like Mike Achatz step in.

Achatz is a financial services representative who boasts a long list of qualifications, education, and awards. He also lives right here in Severna Park and loves the community. “My practice first started in 1999,” Achatz explains. “I was always interested in things like baseball statistics and numbers overall and it seemed natural to gravitate toward business and accounting.” After college, Achatz accepted a position that put him with one of the big six accounting firms, but he received no personal satisfaction. “It lacked client interaction,” he shared. So he turned to financial planning. “I saw that people didn’t always understand the complexities,” Achatz said. “I wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Financial planning provides me greater personal satisfaction than any other career.”

Attracted by the stability of the community, the great schools and the family-friendly nature, Achatz and his wife, Megan, moved to Severna Park just last year. Shortly after their move, daughter Grace was born. “It’s another thing that shows how great this community is,” said Achatz. “People we hardly knew, neighbors, stopped by with gifts and cooked meals.”

“I am not new to the area,” Achatz explains, “but I am new to Severna Park.” And Achatz believes in supporting the local community. The company sponsors an annual holiday gala; last year’s donations went to support the Maryland Food Bank. They also sponsor Believe in Tomorrow, a respite housing service for critically ill children and their families. The Achatzs are members of the Bay Area Community Church. “My wife and I enjoy the sense of pride and the family atmosphere,” Achatz says of Severna Park. “Most of my clients live in Anne Arundel County.”

“I feel the business will continue to be quite dynamic,” he continued. “I think it’s even more important now for people to partner with a trusted financial advisor. It’s crucial for people to review their plan on a regular basis to make sure it’s cohesive.”

“People here take pride in community,” Achatz says. “Neighbors go out of their way. My wife and I got a sense of that before moving here, and now we’ve seen it firsthand. That sense of community is why we chose to move here and raise a family here. I made it as a primary focus to be a resource for community members.”
