Chamber Update

We are excited to announce our newest members of the chamber: Gallery 564, owned by Mike Brown; Merritt Financial – Michael Green; Coldwell Banker – Cara McKendrick; Perfectly Posh, owned by Susan Coghlan; and Hand and Stone – Nova Amos. We are also excited to announce that M&T Bank will become a Bronze chamber member, and Griswold Home Care will become a Silver chamber member.

The Eastern District’s National Night Out was held on August 7 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company. Community members enjoyed demonstrations, free food, games and friendly interactions with local police, fire and emergency responders. Thank you to John Spencer, the mastermind behind this incredible event, who is retiring after four years of organizing.

Our Shop Local Fun Festival was met by blue skies on August 18. We had more than 60 exhibitors, food, demonstrations, music, face-painting, a photo booth, animals, bowling, and fun for the whole family.

We had four ribbon cuttings in August, and we are proud of the new businesses that have opened shop in our great community. They are Tough Love Salon, where you will get a truly honest assessment of your hairstyle; Pedal Power Kids, a wonderful kids’ bike camp and more; Smart Fit Kids Academy, a unique before/after school caretaker providing homework help, academic instruction, and martial arts; and Gallery 564, a wonderful place filled with beautiful art from local artists. Please support these and all our local businesses that give back so much to our community.

Our last Fly-by Friday was held at the Orso building in Severna Park and David Orso was our master chef. Many thanks to David, Dawn and the Orso team for a lovely lunch outside on the patio. A huge thanks to the Gardiner and Appel Group for sponsoring all three cookouts, Effortless Bistro Personal Chef Service for the side dishes, the Negron Farmers Insurance Company for the popcorn, and ice cream from Bruster’s.

On the horizon is our fantastic annual Driving Force for Business golf tournament, to be held at Chartwell Golf and Country Club on September 17. Sponsorships are available, so contact our office for more information.
