The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce extends wishes for a joyous holiday season and a happy new year! This is such a busy season with holiday shopping and events. Please remember to shop local and support the members of the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce this season. Our members have wonderful products and services - something for everyone on your shopping list. Need a referral? Call the Chamber at 410-647-3900. Supporting our local small businesses helps build a better community and that’s a great gift right there!

I wish to thank the sponsors of this year’s Holiday Tree Lighting event held on Dec. 2. M&T Bank served as corporate sponsor, with assistance from Dynasplint Systems, Inc., BankAnnapolis and Constellation Energy. Office Depot and the Law Offices of Elmore, Throop and Young provided valuable support. A special thank-you goes to Rod and Sharon Mann for providing the sound system for the evening’s festivities, and our area Girl Scout troops for their assistance with refreshments. Local scouts also provided tree décor designed to feed wild birds this winter and we thank them for their support with this environmental holiday project.

Our appreciation also goes to Big Vanilla Athletic Club for serving as corporate sponsor for our November Holiday Trade Fair at Earleigh Heights Fire Hall. Thanks to Champion Realty, Matt Wyble and BankAnnapolis for sponsoring our 2011 Taste & Sip of Greater Severna Park. We also wish to thank Homestead Gardens in Severna Park and Zachary’s Jewelers for providing the fabulous venue for Taste And Sip. Funds raised from that event will benefit the Chamber and our ongoing beautification program.

Our General Membership Luncheon on Dec. 9 will feature Delegate Cathy Vitale as guest speaker. Kaufmann’s Tavern’s upstairs dining room is the location for this event and Delegate Vitale will provide an update on what we can expect in the upcoming legislative session.

Our final event on the calendar is our Welcome Breakfast for New and Prospective Members, to be held at Woodfire’s Back Room on Dec. 16 from 8:00pm to 9:30pm. This event is for our newest members, and also for prospective members, and while there is no fee to attend, an RSVP is requested to Linda Zahn at 410-647-3900 (info@severnaparkchamber.com).

In the spirit of giving, the Chamber’s annual Holiday Mixer at Brian Boru provides funds for SPAN and needy area families. This event will be held on Dec. 14. We also have our Sock Hop in full swing to collect socks and mittens for the homeless. Bring items to the Chamber of Commerce at 1 Holly Avenue, or to Shoe Specialist on Benfield Road, Victoria’s Fancy Foods on Ritchie Highway, or Tasti-D-Lite in Park Plaza. This Drive will benefit local homeless shelters and programs. Something as small as a pair of mittens, or new socks makes a big difference in the life of a homeless person. Items can be brought to any Chamber of Commerce event in December.
