Chamber Update

The holiday season is a fantastic time of year in many ways. It’s filled with beauty and the warmth that comes from spending time with family and friends. The spirit of Christmas spreads a special glow, even on days when we feel overwhelmed. I wish you and yours a truly magical holiday season.

This is a time when we can support our local business community, too. Our businesses have a variety of gift items, décor and holiday food to suit all occasions and budgets. Remember to shop local to make the season a special one for our local businesses. For many businesses, sales made now will help them get through some of the quieter months ahead.

We’d like to express our gratitude for some of the businesses that have been instrumental in our holiday activities. Homestead Gardens and Zachary’s Jewelers have provided a spectacular backdrop for our Taste & Sip event since we began, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to work together in such a beautiful venue. It’s special too with the Matt Wyble Team of Champion Realty. Matt and his folks are tremendous partners, and it’s a pleasure to work with them. Our thanks also go to the other sponsors for Taste & Sip: The Rick Hennen Team with 1st Mariner Bank; Massage Envy; and Kim Payton, Kanger Alkaline Water.

The primary sponsor of our November 3 holiday trade fair at Earleigh Heights Fire Hall was Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi. We appreciate the support provided by Billy and Nancy Greer, owners of this fine local business.

Our Christmas tree lighting ceremony this year (December 2) was sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Severna Park and Severn Bank. Additional sponsors included A-fordable Tree Care, Severna Park Veterinary Hospital, Trinity Bible Church, The Negron Agency-Farmers Insurance and Wright Orthodontics. We also with to thank Toast of Severna Park Toastmasters Club for providing the hospitality at the open house, with assistance from Bruster’s Ice Cream. This year, we invited the students at Benfield Elementary School to provide the ornaments for the tree. The school’s green club created ornaments for the chamber’s holly tree. The red glittering ornaments were made from materials that may be accumulating dust in many a household – tissue paper, balloons, glue and glitter. They also created wreaths from old buttons and pipe cleaners. The group discussed the importance of using items you already own and recycling.

Our next event — and last membership luncheon of the year — is a luncheon at Chartwell Country Club on Wednesday, December 14. The guest speaker will be Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot. The luncheon will feature a small silent auction also. The fee is $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers and preregistration is required. Visit us at www.severnaparkchamber.com to register, or learn more. Of course, we’d love to hear from you, so call 410-647-3900 or email us at info@severnaparkchamber.com.
