Broadneck Elementary Students Aid Winter Relief

Fourth- and first-grade students at Broadneck Elementary recently packed lunches for Winter Relief at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church.

“We wanted to involve the children, and they’re so enthusiastic,” said Jean Clarke, who volunteers with St. Margaret’s Winter Relief and helped coordinate the project. “We were looking for things to collaborate on with the school, and this was a perfect fit.”

In all, the four classes packed 70 lunches. Students drew designs on the lunch bags and also included handwritten cards for the recipients.

This year, part of Broadneck’s initiative was to do more community service and outreach. Reading teacher Kelly Kiriakidis worked with Clarke to organize the project.

All items that were packed in the lunches were donated by Broadneck families. Teachers created a SignUpGenius that included all of the needed items, and parents signed up for what they wanted to donate.
